Carnival of the Blogging Chicks #38

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I know, I'm a week late posting the link to the Mother's Day Carnival at Gretchen's but I'm right on time for Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day to all our mommy bloggers and readers. I hope you enjoy your day. It has to be better than mine: I'm sick and I'm studying for my final (at least I don't have to cook -- we're getting take out).

We will be having a Carnival next week and the following week, CyberCelt will be hosting both of them. Send your entries to her be noon on each Sunday.

May 20 - CoolAdzine for Marketers -- Tips for Successful Blogging

May 27 - Texas RV TravelC -- What are Your Plans for Summer?

Starting on Friday I will be taking a week off from blogging, that includes answering my emails and adding blogs to the blogroll. You can still send my email, I just won't respond until Memorial Day weekend.

We are having a Carnival this week

Email me your entry either today or tomorrow morning. The Carnival will be posted tomorrow afternoon. I have a lot of emails to get through, a lot of women are requesting to be added to the blogroll.

Monday, April 16, 2007

The Blog is loading slowly

For some reason the blogroll is loading slowly, I suggest you move it to the end of the sidebar or at the bottom of your page. Also, make sure that you load you posts before you load your sidebar. This makes sense even when blogrolling is working perfectly.

But please don't remove it from you blog! :-)

Carnival of the Blogging Chicks #33 Movie/TV Theme

Please email me if you'd like to be added to the Carnival. Next week there won't be a theme.

I've rewritten the requirements page, you might want to read it because I mention the purpose of the blogroll and why I require everyone to display the blogroll.

I also collected all the links to the past Carnivals and put them in the Carnival post (there's a link for it in the menu above).

BTW, the theme for next week's Carnival is favorite TV show or movie.

Announcement: A search engine for women

Michelle of scribbit has created a search engine that searches the blogs of women:
It's a custom search engine powered by Google that searches select blogs on parenting, crafts, cooking, gardening and blogs by women. Normally when you search for a word or phrase Google returns millions of results, displaying the most popular based on their magic algorithms. For my custom search engine I have narrowed Google's parameters so that a search here will only return results from the blogs I've specified.

What does this mean?

Say you're writing a post on helping your child learn to read and would like to add to what others have written on the subject, by searching with this custom search engine you'd learn what Thrifty Mommy, Play Library, Rocks in My Dryer, Izzy Mom or the other thousand blogs on parenting have to say on the subject.

Read more about this new blog tool at http://scribbit.blogspot.com/

I won't be doing any Blogging Chicks business until next week

Look, we all have to play nice here!

There is a wide diversity of opinion and beliefs on this blogroll and I'm trying to create an atmosphere in which everyone feels comfortable here. I would ask that you refrain from using incendiary language on the Metablog. Let's respect each other's right to believe what we want to believe, at least here on the Metablog.

BTW, I know I'm late on switching to the headlines from the new featured blog and I promise to give you extra time because of it. You'll have a month on the Metablog to make up for it.

I should never have started a new blogroll and two new networks (if you don't know what I'm talking about, look at the previous posts) when I also have a really bad cold and recovering from surgery. Switching to Beta Blogger

I know that it's no longer called Beta but for the purposes of this post, I'm calling it that. I've gotten a number of emails from people who have switched from Blogger to Beta and then lose the blogroll in the switch. I have no problem resending the code but I'm concerned that you might not remember everything that you had in your sidebar, so I thought I would offer a suggestion. Before you switch save your template by copying it into a text program like Notepad. Then you can copy the code from your sidebar to your new blog.

If you switched recently before you saved a copy of your template, you could Google your blog name, then select "Cached." BTW, this is a good trick to use if you messed up your sidebar and didn't back it up recently, an old copy of your blog is still available via Google (that's what "cached" means). This happened to me recently, I had made some additions to my sidebar a couple weeks previously and I went to replace a comment in my sidebar, not knowing that my stupid touchpad had selected everything below the comment and I deleted everything and then saved my template without verifying that it was ok. I was able to get the code back by googling my blog, then selecting "Cached" and then right click on mouse and select "View Page Source" from the menu. Then I just copied the sidebar material that was missing.

The headlines are up!

I was able to put up all seven of the headlines, so there is no one on the waiting list. If you want to be the first one displayed in a month, email me.

We have the 5!

Five (actually six) bloggers have already responded but you can still email your url so that you can be on the waiting lists, I will tell you what number you are so that you know when your headlines will be up on the Metablog. You don't have to install the Metablog headlines while you are waiting. I will email you in a month to remind to install it. If I get the headlines up tonight, then they will be up until Feb. 17.

Don't be bummed if you didn't make it, I have something else in the works to help promote your blog. I will try to get it ready to announce this week, next week at the latest. :-)

An Advertising Offer

I mention that I would be offering you an opportunity to advertise your headlines on the sidebar of the Metablog. The first five people who install the following code on their sidebar and email me their url, will be put on the sidebar of the Metablog for a month.

And the rest will be put on a waiting list and the next five will be displayed for two weeks at the end of the month. And when we have gone through the list, we will start back at the beginning and work through the list. I will continually add new people to the list if you want to join later. You only have to display the Blogging Chicks headlines while we are displaying your headlines. Look at it as a reciprocal headlines exchange. I only have one caveat and that is you refrain from swearing in your headline (just in the headline) during the time that you are displayed here.

Now, anyone who wants to know what's been posted at the Metablog (especially what's going on with the Carnival and something else that I will be announcing this week that would benefit your readers) might want to add the code to your sidebar.

Another way to be informed about what's going on here, at the Metablog is to subscribe to our feed, either by email or one of your favorite RSS readers. There is a form and a chicklet in the sidebar. I plan to post more informational stuff here, so you might want to keep checking back.

If anyone has problems installing the code, email me.

Too much spam!

The daily spam on this blog has finally made me put verification on the posts. I'm sorry, I know that can be a pain but I've had it with deleting the posts each day.

The Purpose of the Metablog

I thought it might be helpful to repeat the purpose of the Metablog. We have so many new blogs added and I don't think the new people are getting what we are about. The purpose of the Metablog is to advertise the blogs on the blogroll and to that purpose we have Carnivals as well as announcements about any special event on the blogs.

Another purpose of the blogroll is to offer helps and tips on blogging which you will find by clicking on the "Blogging Resources" tab. I will be adding to those resources in the coming weeks before I return to seminary. If you've written a post that you think would be helpful to other bloggers, email the link to me and I will post it on the Metablog, if I think it's helpful.

Also, in the coming weeks I will be offering a way for you to promote your content (as headlines) here on the Metablog, if you promote the content of the Metablog on your blog. Details will follow (eventually :-) You can see an example of what it might look like by checking out the headlines of my blog Life Under the Sun on the sidebar.

Blogging Chicks Carvinal

We will be having a Carnival this week so make sure you get your post written early! I've decided to widen the theme a little bit to include what you're planning to do in the future, either resolutions or future plans for your blog or dieting or vacations or whatever. So, you can either blog about your Christmas/Holiday or your plans for the future. Email me by midnight (EST) on Saturday.

Updated: If you want to do a year in review post, you can submit that as well. So, the theme would be looking back or forward.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all the Blogging Chicks and to those who read this blog. I hope all your lives are filled with peace and joy in the coming year.

We will be having a Carnival next Sunday here on the Metablog. I thought we could have a theme:" What I did on my Christmas/Winter/Holiday break." I figured you would be writing a post like that anyway and I thought it would be fun for us to catch up with what everyone is doing.

A Blogging Chicks Christmas

I know that I said there won't be much posting but I've been going through the blogroll, checking to make sure that everyone still has the blogroll on their blog (we lost about twenty blogs, though this time I emailed everyone and some of the bloggers didn't know they didn't have the blogroll on their blog, so we didn't lose as many as we could have). And while I was checking I noticed how many of the Blogging Chicks have decorated for Christmas. Here are some:

Her Majesty's Throne (so cute, you have to check it out),
Here is-A-Blog-4-Chilady,
Joyful Mom,
My So-Called Homeschool,
Jottings From Jersey,
Just a Spoon Full of Sugar,
Lifecruiser,
The Looney Bin,
Momma's So Called Life (which she's renamed Momma's So Called Christmas Life -- I'm assuming that's temporary so I'm not changing it on the blogroll),
Mia Shaken Not Stirred (go check it out it is sooo cute!),
Wooden Porch, Suspension of Disbelief,
Temporarily Me, Rocks In My Dryer,
WebKittyn Warbles,
Whisperings From the Wings
Write from Karen

Sobeit makes you want to drink hot chocolate while you read the blog. And Yellow Rose Garden invokes memories of Christmas movies.

And there is a very timely parking video at Home is Where You Start From (very funny).

I did a little decorating on my blogs, but nothing compared to everyone else's. But I do have a cute Christmas video here (Madagaskar).

So, go check out all the decorated blogs, it will be like going to look at your neighborhood's Christmas decorations on Christmas Eve.

If you've decorated for either Hanuka, Christmas, or winter, feel free to leave a link in the comments section.

Happy Hanukkah !

To all our Jewish Blogging Chicks and readers, Happy Hanukkah! I'm sorry it took me so long to say it. I hope you enjoy your time of celebration with your families and friends.

Laughter Carnival

Hey Ladies! I know that you guys have something you can submit. I've been to your blogs and I've read some of your posts. There are tons of kids stories out there. Shannon had the funniest story I've read on the Internet about her son licking the toilet water. Go to her blog and ask her to submit it :-)
